Bitwise Donates $233K to Bitcoin Dev Funds
SAN FRANCISCO — March 4, 2026 — Bitwise Asset Management said it will donate $233,000 to support Bitcoin open-source developers, funding groups that back the volunteer engineers who maintain and secure the Bitcoin network.
The donation is Bitwise’s second annual contribution tied to its public commitment to donate 10% of gross profits from the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB) each year to Bitcoin open-source development.
Who receives the funds
Bitwise said the $233,000 donation will be directed to three organizations selected for their track record funding Bitcoin open-source work:
- Brink
- OpenSats
- Human Rights Foundation’s Bitcoin Development Fund
Bitwise Co-founder and CTO Hong Kim said developers are “unsung heroes” of the network and framed the donation as a commitment that holds regardless of market cycles, with Bitwise continuing to support the teams maintaining Bitcoin’s core infrastructure.
BITB context and Bitwise’s broader footprint
Bitwise said BITB has attracted more than $2.5 billion in inflows since its launch in January 2024.
The firm also described itself as a global crypto asset manager with over $15 billion in client assets and a product suite spanning ETFs and other crypto investment vehicles.
Industry takeaway
This is a notable example of a mainstream crypto investment product linking its growth directly to public-good funding. For the Bitcoin ecosystem specifically, recurring contributions like this help strengthen the incentives around the least flashy but most critical layer of the stack: open-source maintenance, security review, and long-term protocol stewardship.
