Bitwise Buys Chorus One to Expand Staking

Bitwise Buys Chorus One to Expand Staking

Bitwise has acquired institutional staking provider Chorus One, expanding its push into on-chain yield and staking infrastructure for professional clients. The deal folds Chorus One into Bitwise Onchain Solutions (BOS), Bitwise’s staking division, and adds another major institutional staking platform to Bitwise’s crypto stack.

Bitwise said it now manages over $15 billion in client assets, while Chorus One brings more than $2.2 billion in staked assets and multichain validator infrastructure to the combined platform.

Bitwise is scaling staking as a core institutional product

In the announcement, Bitwise framed staking as a major growth area for clients that already hold spot crypto and want yield on top of that exposure. The company said Chorus One has now joined Bitwise Onchain Solutions, which already supports several billion dollars in staked crypto assets.

Bitwise also said BOS primarily serves institutional investors, family offices, and financial platforms, positioning this acquisition as an infrastructure and capability expansion rather than a retail product launch.

Chorus One adds multichain reach and technical talent

Bitwise said the acquisition expands staking capabilities across more than 30 proof-of-stake networks, naming chains including Solana, Hyperliquid, Monad, Avalanche, Sui, NEAR, Aptos, Tezos, and TON.

The company also said the deal adds 50 experienced technology professionals and strengthens protocol/governance research coverage for clients. That combination matters because institutional staking demand increasingly depends on both validator performance and high-quality protocol risk analysis.

Team integration is part of the transaction

Bitwise said the core Chorus One team will join the firm, while Chorus One CEO and co-founder Brian Crain will move into an advisory role. The company also noted that, after the acquisition, Bitwise has nearly 200 employees worldwide.

The announcement did not disclose financial terms, but it did note that Keefe, Bruyette & Woods (KBW), a Stifel company, served as exclusive financial advisor to Chorus One.

The broader signal is institutional crypto moving deeper on-chain

This deal fits a wider trend: asset managers are moving beyond simple spot exposure and into infrastructure-backed services like staking, custody-integrated yield, and protocol-level participation. In Bitwise’s case, the acquisition strengthens its ability to offer institutions a more complete “hold + stake + research” setup under one umbrella. This is an inference based on the roles and capabilities described in the announcement.

Bitwise’s release also emphasizes Chorus One’s long track record and client base across funds, institutions, exchanges, custodians, and decentralized protocols, suggesting the acquisition is as much about operating expertise and trust as it is about staked asset volume.

Why it matters for crypto

  • Institutional staking is becoming a core product line for major crypto asset managers, not just a side service.
  • Bitwise gains validator infrastructure and research coverage across 30+ PoS networks, expanding multichain yield capacity.
  • The deal strengthens the bridge between traditional asset management clients and on-chain participation.
  • More consolidation in staking infrastructure could raise the bar for security, uptime, and institutional reporting standards.
  • This adds momentum to the “crypto yield as infrastructure” theme across funds, platforms, and family offices.

What to watch next

  • Whether Bitwise rolls out new staking products or managed yield offerings through BOS after the integration.
  • Any updates on network coverage expansion beyond the 30+ chains cited in the announcement.
  • How Bitwise positions Chorus One’s research and governance analysis in client-facing products.
  • Whether other crypto asset managers pursue similar staking infrastructure acquisitions in 2026.
  • Integration milestones, including staffing, validator operations, and institutional client onboarding under BOS.
